Integrated Scheduling

Integrated Scheduling throughout the Asset Lifecycle

Before an Asset begins its life as a revenue generating system or equipment it is seen in the eyes of Engineers and Project Planners through CADD and project management solutions like ActiveProject™, Microsoft® Project, Primavera™. It is their task to design, build, install, commission and start-up this system/equipment on time and on budget. Concurrently Operations & Maintenance Managers and Maintenance Planners are anticipating the arrival of their new system using IBM Maximo to create spare parts, inventory and maintenance programs. They are tasked with the cost effective operating and maintaining this system as it generates product / service revenues until it is decommissioned.

Integrated Scheduling is the task of integrating commissioning and hand-over schedules created by Project Planners into start-up and maintenance schedules used by Maintenance Planners.

This challenge will be repeated during the Operation & Maintenance Phase during shutdown, turnaround, outage and decommissioning projects. Maintenance Planners / Schedulers and Supervisors will transform these Gantt views into more intuitive and useable calendar based schedules for resource assignment and work control. CiM’s Smart Schedules, Smart Calendars and Smart Resource Leveling extend the scheduling strength of IBM Maximo® Scheduler.

Visual Planner Suite and Maximo SchedulerIBM Maximo® Scheduler (available in version 7.1.1.5) is positioned to support the transformation of external project schedules into work schedules with Work Orders / Tasks as work breakdown structure.

Historically schedule data mapping disparity, quirky adapter performance and slow processing time were just some of the challenges encountered in previous generations of adapter products needed to connect to powerful scheduling tools like ActiveProject™, Microsoft® Project, Primavera™ and too often complex spreadsheets.

Installing Maximo® Scheduler leverages existing data fields within Maximo (version 7.x) that enable true CPM methods ideal for project style scheduling. Using Maximo Integration applications to connect to these external systems provides for the opportunity to streamline and automate the scheduling process. Changes to the schedule are committed to the Maximo database by using asynchronous processing. You can configure the number of records that Maximo commits at the same time to maximize system performance.

MXProject1_578Maximo® Scheduler software enables organizations to view and schedule work orders and tasks in a Gantt chart. This enables better prioritization of work, optimal resource usage, decreased asset downtime for maintenance and efficient work planning.

  • Intuitive visual navigation through work orders and tasks.
  • Ability to manage task and work dependencies like finish to start, start to start, finish to finish and start to finish including lead and lag.
  • Compare resource load against availability to ensure optimal resource usage.
  • Auto scheduling of work based on task dependencies and work shifts.
  • Configurable Gantt view enables schedule specific data layout.
  • Ability to create “what if” scenarios.
  • Operating systems supported: Windows
  • Scheduler application
You use the Scheduler application to manage and schedule work and resources at your organization.
  • Visual schedule management in the Gantt view
To visually manage and schedule work in your organization, you can use the Gantt view of the Scheduler application. The Gantt view shows you the resources available for work, and lets you make schedule changes that factor in date and task precedence constraints.
  • Date constraints in schedules
When you set date constraints on work records, the constraints display on the Gantt View tab of the Scheduler application.
  • Predecessor relationships
You can define relationships between work records that determine when tasks begin and end in relation to one another. The work records must be siblings under the same parent work record to define a predecessor relationship.
  • Schedule duplication
You can copy a schedule and use it to create a different scenario for the same work. You can change the new schedule and save it to compare to the original schedule.
  • Creating schedules
Creating a work schedule using IBM® Maximo® Asset Management Scheduler helps you to optimize the resources that are used for work. The work schedule is prioritized and logically structured.
  • Scheduling work in the Gantt view
After you create a project schedule in the Scheduler application, you use the Gantt view to visually manage and schedule work and resources in your organization. The Gantt view shows you the resources available for work, and it helps you make schedule changes with ease, while factoring constraints into the schedule automatically.
  • Working with precedence constraints in the Gantt view
You can manage precedence constraints from within the Gantt view to ensure that tasks are completed in the proper order.
  • Critical Path Method logic
IBM Maximo Asset Management Scheduler uses the standard critical path method (CPM) algorithm to assign schedule dates to each work record. The CPM logic determines scheduling dates by factoring in precedence relationships, calendar information, specified start dates, and other factors.
  • Configuring asynchronous processing
Changes to the schedule are committed to the Maximo database by using asynchronous processing. You can configure the number of records that Maximo commits at the same time to maximize system performance.
