In order to be competitive in today’s global market, enterprises must embrace a lean environment strategy and as part of it, implement Effective Asset Management to maximize profits from their existing asset investment. In their business transformation journey, many enterprises have implemented the most common maintenance tactics, but in most cases have not achieved their overall objectives and are still struggling to get out of the reactive mode. The key to achieving lean maintenance objectives is to also implement Effective Planning and Scheduling. This will ensure that
maintenance tactics work is carried out in the minimum amount of time with the highest labour productivity. It requires addressing the work culture, re-engineering the organisational structure and providing adequate software support.

· Benefits of Effective Planning & Scheduling
· The organizational challenge
· Planning and Scheduling roles
· Measuring the results achieved for continuous improvement

“In response to the deep recession that has recently punished most Canadian companies – and the manufacturing sector in particular – maintenance managers in today’s manufacturing environment can find themselves pushed to the limit in trying to keep machines running for maximum output. Rising costs, foreign competition and the constant need to improve the productivity of the plant only compound the challenge.

Avoiding costly repairs and increasing operating time on machinery has never been more crucial than it is today.
Federated Press’ 8th Reinventing Maintenance Conference will bring you the latest insights from senior maintenance and engineering professionals on how they are successfully facing the challenges of today’s maintenance environment and developing optimal efficiency in their own plants.”

Planning & Scheduling Certification comes to the IBM Maximo User Community

CiM Maintenance (CiM) and IBM’s Asset Management Center of Excellence (AMcoe) have teamed to deliver the first Maximo Planner / Scheduler Certification program to the Maximo User Group (MUG) audiences at the Facilities Management Maximo User Group (FMMUG) at St. Petersburg FL (April 23-27) and the Maximo Utilities Working Group (MWUG) at Baltimore MD (May 27).

For the Utilities industry, this program will become a benchmark 3 level certification program administered by MWUG to bring standardization to the craft of planning and scheduling work in the Utilities marketplace. IBM’s Don Barry opened the session with a clever group exercise that brought light to the value of planning maintenance work and a whiteboard illustration on how planning and scheduling best practices can save upwards to 22% in direct maintenance cost. With this eye-opener as a foundation CiM’s Jim Charboneau spoke about process models for success and the effective use of Maximo features and functions to achieve planning excellence across the full asset lifecycle. CiM’s Jean Charbonneau provided detailed look at Maximo of Utilities (T&D) job plans, PM and scheduling capabilities and demonstrated effective use of Maximo’s Assignment Managers and Labor Calendars to achieve high performance work deployment. http://cimmaintenance.com/services/training-and-certification-services/planning-scheduling-excellence-1-day/

At the MWUG meetings CiM launched its Visual Solutions for Smarter Utilities that features Maximo for Utilities (T&D), the Crew Scheduler, a crew enable version of Maximo Scheduler and enhanced versions of CiM’s Visual Planner Suite (T&D) for use in distribution, transmission, plants and nuclear operations. http://cimmaintenance.com/products/industry-solutions/visual-planner-for-utilities/

This joint-offering between CiM Maintenance and IBM has grown in popularity since the introduction of IBM Maximo’s Maximo Scheduler. The much anticipated and highly welcomed Maximo Scheduler application works seamlessly with CiM’s Visual Solutions enabling a tightly integrated, interoperable full lifecycle integrated asset management solution.

At Pulse 2010 in Las Vegas, IBM VP Sandy Carter recognized CiM as a leader in integrated industry frameworks. CiM Maintenance is the oldest Maximo partner renowned for creating value rich solutions that are embedded into Maximo v 5.x, 6.x and 7.x architectures. IBM Global Business Services is a strategic partner and reseller of CiM products worldwide. www.cimmaintenance.com

Having advanced maintenance planning, scheduling and compliance tools like the award winning Visual Planner™ enables Operations and Maintenance Managers to have direct line of sight to the maintenance priorities of the day without losing focus or view of the long term work plans.

Visual Planner for Smarter Utilities is a truly integrated configuration of Maximo for Utilities (T&D) applications that simplifies and automates the planning & scheduling and crew assignment requirements for power generation, distribution and utility based operations. Utilities consume plenty of human and electronic energy in creating, transmitting and distributing electricity and services. Reducing the work planning cycles gets work crews to the right location with the right parts and tools to execute quick and effective maintenance.
